ABSTRACT

AIM: To compare the effectiveness and complications of treating rhegmatogenous retinal detachment(RRD)with foldable capsule body(FCB)and scleral buckling(SB).METHODS: The clinical data of 81 patients(82 eyes)with RRD who underwent surgery at our hospital from March 2019 to April 2022 were retrospectively analyzed. The differences in retinal reattachment rate, best-corrected visual acuity, the absorption of subretinal fluid, postoperative discomfort and incidence of complications between the two treatments were compared.RESULTS: The retinal reattachment rate was 96% in the FCB group and 92% in the SB group, with no significant difference between the two groups(P>0.05). The best corrected visual acuity of the affected macular eyes was different in the both groups(P<0.01). Both groups effectively promoted the absorption of subretinal fluid. The operation time of FCB group was 16.50(12.75, 25.00)min, while it was 38.00(36.25, 41.75)min in the SB group(P<0.001). Patients in the FCB group also had significantly lower eyelid swelling and pain symptoms than those in the SB group(P<0.001). The visual analogue scale(VAS)score at 1d after operation was 1.00(0.00, 2.00)in the FCB group and 3.00(2.00, 3.00)in the SB group(P<0.001).CONCLUSION: FCB is a safe and effective surgical method to treat RRD that can alleviate patient's pain. Furthermore, FCB has a significantly shorter operation time and milder postoperative adverse reactions than SB.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To establish an HPLC fingerprint method of Jizhi Syrup and determine the contents of its main components. Methods: The Waters XTerra RP-18 (250 mm × 4.6 mm, 5 μm) column was used with a mobile phase of 0.8% acetic acid (containning 0.2% triethylamine) and acetonitrile gradient elution, the flow rate was 1.0 mL/min, the column temperature was 35℃, and the detection wavelength was 280 nm. The Similarity Evaluation System for Chromatographic Fingerprint of TCM (2012 edition) was used to establish the fingerprint spectra and analyze the similarity degree. The common peaks were identified by reference compounds and negative controls, and the content was detected. Results: The fingerprint chromatography included 17 mutual peaks. Peak 2 and peak 8 were from Houttuyniae Herba, peak 4 and peak 10 were from Fagopyri Dibotryis Rhizoma, peaks 7, 12, and 15 were from Ilicis Chinensis Folium, peaks 1 and 13 were from Ephedrae Herba, peaks 16 and 17 were from Aurantii Fructus, and peaks 3 and 6 were from Houttuyniae Herba, Fagopyri Dibotryis Rhizoma, and Ilicis Chinensis Folium. The similarity among the batches was more than 0.98. Based on the retention time of master compounds, six components [protocatechuic acid (peak 3), protocatechualdehyde (peak 6), ferulic acid (peak 7), chlorogenic acid (peak 10), ephedrine hydrochloride (peak 13), and naringin (peak 16)] were identified and quantified. The contents of protocatechuic acid, protocatechualdehyde, ferulic acid, chlorogenic acid, ephedrine hydrochloride, and naringin in 10 batches of Jizhi Syrup were 3.122 1-3.270 0, 5.108 6-5.224 9, 8.893 2-9.120 8, 6.792 1-6.931 0, 2.154 4-2.236 2, and 4.125 8-4.183 3 mg/mL, respectively. Conclusion: The established method has high sensitivity, fast, precise and specificity, and can be used for the quality control of Jizhi Syrup.

ABSTRACT

Objective To understand the epidemiological characteristics and the influencing factors of Japanese encephalitis (Abbreviated JE) at different periods in Hainan province, and to provide evidence for JE control strategies. Methods Data on JE had been collected since 1952 and related incidence, mortality, fatality rates of JE and the rate of JE vaccination were calculated for four periods: the natural epidemic period (1952-1978), period for inactivated JE vaccine promotion (1979-1986), national immunization program period (1987-1990) and the promotion of live-attenuated JE vaccine period (1991-2007). History on the immunity of JE and data from the monitoring programs on cases and insect vectors were also analyzed. Results The average annual incidence in natural epidemic period was 7.12/100 000, which was also the highest among the 4 periods with the mortality rate as 0.89/100 000. The average annual incidence was 0.11/100 000 which was the lowest while the mortality rate was 0.01/100 000 in the period when live-attenuated JE vaccination was under promotion. Since the establishment of JE surveillance system was set up in Hainan province in 2002, the specimen collection rate of JE reported suspected cases had reached 92.8%, while the incidence of confirmed JE cases fluctuated between 0.05/100 000 and 0.2/100 000. Of the confirmed cases, 86% did not have clear history of JE vaccination. The annual average protective rate reached 95.69% in 2004-2007. The density of insect vectors was high in Hainan province. The infection rate of JE in host animal swine, kept rising from April to October, and in some surveillance points, the rate reached 99.3%. The density of insect vector plotted in trans-curve with the infection of host animals. Conclusion The application of live-attenuated JE vaccine was found to have had significant protective effect on JE in susceptible children. It helped reducing the incidence and controlling the epidemics of JE. It appears feasible to include live-attenuated JE vaccine into the expanded immunization program.

In our research of digital human body, construct of image structures close to the recorder of human channels and collaterals, and trace back to development biology of connective tissue and process of organic evolution, and it is concluded that connective tissue bracket in human body may constitute a new functional system--human self-supervision and control system, meanwhile, we propose a new study field, fasciology. The significance is that it introduces a new functional system in human body and develops new field of scientific research; and it annotate biological foundation and therapeutic mechanisms of traditional Chinese medicine therapy, which provides medical biological foundation for modern channel research of traditional Chinese medicine; it proposes a suggestion for development strategy of traditional Chinese medicine.

ABSTRACT

Chinese acupuncture and moxibustion has been widely accepted as a useful therapeutics all over the world, but its mechanism has not been fully defined. For this purpose, a reticular framework of whole-body fascia and connective tissues has been established by means of digitized virtual human technique. The virtual acupoints represented three-dimensionally were compared with the sites for stimulation in practice of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) acupuncture therapy. The results showed that the fascial network constituted by the connective tissues may be the anatomical basis for acupuncture therapy. We found that the acupoints were mainly located where thick connective tissues were present. In this fascial network, sensitive nerve endings, active cells and lymphatic vessels abounded in the sites with thick connective tissue, and needling at these sites induced definite biological effects. In light of biological phylogeny and embryo development, we believe that the connective tissue network may constitute a new functional system in the human body, the Self-supervision and control system (Fasciology), which provides a theoretical base for acupuncture therapy.

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To explore the correlativity of meridians and acupoints with fascial system.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>The lines and beads-like structures seen by fasciaology and scanning connective tissue, were combined with traditional meridians and collaterals, and acupoints to investigate channels, collaterals and acupoints.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>The high correlativity of the meridians and acupoints with the fascial system was found.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>The concept, functions, clinical application and mechanisms of meridians and acupoints can be preliminarily explained.</p>

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To determine whether transforming growth factor betal (TGF-beta1)/Smad signaling pathway mediates p53-dependent apoptosis in hepatoma cell lines.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Three human hepatic carcinoma cell lines, HepG2, Huh-7, and Hep3B, were used in this study. TGF-beta1-induced apoptosis in hepatic carcinoma cell lines was analyzed using TUNEL assay. For identifying the mechanism of apoptosis induced by TGF-beta1, cell lines were transfected with a TGF-beta1-inducible luciferase reportor plasmid containing Smad4 binding elements. After transfection, cells were treated with TGF-beta1, then assayed for luciferase activity.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>The apoptosis rate of HepG2 cell lines (48.51% +/- 8.21%) was significantly higher than control (12.72% +/- 2.18%, P <0.05). But TGF-beta1 was not able to induce apoptosis of Huh-7 and Hep3B cell lines. The relative luciferase activity of TGF-beta1-treated HepG2 cell lines (4.38) was significantly higher than control (1.00, P < 0.05). But the relative luciferase activity of TGF-beta1-treated Huh-7 and Hep3B cell lines less increased compared with control.</p><p><b>CONCLUSIONS</b>HepG2 cells seem to be highly susceptible to TGF-beta1-induced apoptosis compared with Hep3B and Huh-7 cell lines. Smad4 is a central mediator of TGF-beta1 signaling transdution pathway. TGF-beta1/Smad signaling pathway might mediate p53-dependent apoptosis in hepatoma cell lines.</p>
